As the episode wound to a close, I thought of a recent Facebook post from a friend of mine:
This is what we need to convey when we sing - that urgency and passion and belief. All of the vocal frills and thrills and high notes in the world cannot make up for a lack of heart. So many young people have this dream of being a glamorous, famous musician. What they fail to realize is that in the end, you need to dream of making music, even if it is for just a few people on the bus (as with "Hollywood"). You find opportunities to sing, and if there are none, then you make opportunities to sing. You sing because your spirit is overflowing with emotion, and music is the most fulfilling way to let it out. Without that it is just empty noise.
